New York, Oct 20 (IANS) A fantasy adventure "Aladin" starring Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan becomes the first Hindi film to kick off the South Asian International Film Festival (SAIFF) here since its inception in 2004. Director Sujoy Ghosh says "it's like a wish come true".

"Aladin", that also stars Sanjay Dutt as Ringmaster, Riteish Deshmukh in the title role and debutante Jacqueline Fernandes as Jasmine, will be screened at The Paris Theatre on Oct 28.

"It is definitely a wish come true to be chosen as the opening film for SAIFF. A lot of people have worked over a period of a long time to make 'Aladin' and an honour like this fully makes it worthwhile. It's a great platform for an Indian film to be showcased to a global audience. I am grateful to SAIFF for making this happen for Aladin." said Ghosh.

"We are excited and honoured to kick off the weeklong festival with Sujoy Ghosh's first feature film," said Shilen Amin, SAIFF President, in a press statement.

"SAIFF's continuing mission is to discover new artists and provide an international platform to emerging independent South Asian filmmakers to showcase their creativity. Sujoy is exceptionally skilled in storytelling and brings the latest in Bollywood's foray into special effects, establishing never before seen practices in its film production history! Obama urges banks to help small businesses

President Barack Obama urged US banks to unfreeze credit for small businesses, calling them "the engine" of the country's economy.

President Barack Obama urged US banks Saturday to unfreeze credit for small businesses, calling them "the engine" of the country's economy.

"Small businesses have always been the engine of our economy - creating 65 percent of all new jobs over the past decade and a half - and they must be at the forefront of our recovery," Obama said in his weekly radio address.

He added that it was time for large American banks that received government assistance at the height of the current economic crisis "to stand by creditworthy small businesses, and make the loans they need to open their doors, grow their operations, and create new jobs."

The president recalled that his administration had already provided five billion dollars worth of tax relief to small businesses and guaranteed some of Small Business Administration loans up to 90 percent, which has supported nearly 13 billion dollars in new lending to more than 33,000 businesses.

But he argued that more needed to be done by private banks, particularly now that the situation in the financial sector has stabilized.

Obama said his administration would take "every appropriate step" to encourage the banking sector to resume lending to small businesses.

"Because if it's one thing we've learned, it's that here in America, we rise and fall together," the president said. "Our economy as a whole can't move ahead if small businesses and the middle class continue to fall behind."

Michelle Obama's gripe: President's tennis game

What's President Barack Obama's most annoying habit?

Practicing his speeches for hours in front of the bathroom mirror? Talking too much foreign policy at the dinner table?

No _ first lady Michelle Obama said Friday it's his tennis game. When they play, the president usually wins.

"He beats me quite often," she said on NBC's "The Jay Leno Show," appearing via satellite hookup from the White House. "That gets to be pretty annoying."

The show was taped for airing later Friday evening.

In a brief skit, Leno pushed her to talk about her husband's flaws. At first, she sarcastically said he has none.

"He's perfect," she quipped.

Then she let it out: It's their battles on the tennis court that get her peeved.

It also looks like Bo _ the Obamas' dog _ is living like a king. The first lady said the presidential pooch celebrated his first birthday earlier this month with a Rose Garden party.

Bo, a Portuguese water dog, feasted on a cake shaped like a dog house that was made out of veal.

"We had a really sweet celebration," the first lady told Leno. "We had party hats."

The first lady told Leno there are White House secrets she will never reveal _ she refused to divulge what daughters Malia and Sasha are wearing for Halloween.

"You need security clearance for that," she said.

Leno also wanted to know what she whispers to her husband after his speeches.

"I usually ask him did he take out the garbage," she said.

'Thriller' zombie tribute to Michael Jackson

A Michael Jackson's impersonator dances along with 'zombies' during the "I do dance Thriller" event in Mexico City, on August 29. Some 60 people aged from 11 to 73 have signed up so far to take part in this year's "Thriller" dance extravaganza in a French village of Gourin, joining fans as far off as Beijing, Buenos Aires, Istanbul, Mexico and Sydney who will come out midnight on Saturday.

Villagers in a rural corner of western France gather around midnight Saturday to dress up as zombies for a globally staged tribute to Michael Jackson involving fans from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur.

"People are coming from all over the place," said Delphine Aldag, the 37-year-old who brought the Brittany village of Gourin into "Thrill The World 2009", a global celebration of the "King of Pop", who died this year at 50.

"Of course there are Michael Jackson fans but also people who just love to dance," she added.

Some 60 people aged from 11 to 73 have signed up so far to take part in the "Thriller" dance extravaganza in Gourin, joining fans as far off as Beijing, Buenos Aires, Istanbul, Mexico and Sydney.

In keeping with the opening line of the 1982 hit, the event is to kick off just after midnight, at 0030 GMT.

"At 2:30 am we'll get a phone call from the organisers and start dancing," said Aldag.

But the village homage to the pop icon may turn out to have a decidedly local feel, with Breton musicians planning interpretations of Jackson hits played on the region's distinctive Gallic-style bagpipes, the "biniou".

The event has been held annually since 2006, growing from 62 dancers, which organisers say resulted in a Guinness World Record, to last year attracting 4,719 dancers in 10 countries. Its website www.thrilltheworld.com lists 300 events this weekend.

"This year's Thrill The World aims to be an unprecedented global celebration of the life and music of Michael Jackson," said founder of the event Ines Markelle, a choreographer and dance instructor from Toronto, Canada.

It even has the seal of approval of Quincy Jones, producer of the multi-million selling "Thriller" album that features the song of the same name.

With well over 100 million copies sold, "Thriller" is generally agreed to be the best selling album of all time. The eponymous song, which features a celebrated spooky rap by kitsch US horror star Vincent Price, was written by British songwriter Rod Temperton.
